Camera works here but not in Teams?

If you can see yourself above, the camera is fine. Close this tab first (only one app can use most cameras at once), then work through these steps.

1. Select the right camera in Teams

  1. Open Settings and more (three dots) → Settings → Devices.
  2. Under Camera, pick your webcam and check the preview.
  3. In a meeting, use More → Settings → Device settings.

2. Give Teams camera permission

  • Windows 11: Settings → Privacy & security → Camera. Turn on Camera access and Let apps access your camera, and make sure Teams is allowed.
  • macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera, switch on Microsoft Teams, then restart Teams.
  • Teams in a browser: allow the camera from the icon on the left of the address bar.

3. “Camera not available”? Free it up

Quit Zoom, Skype, OBS, the Windows Camera app, and any video call tabs. If the camera still shows as busy, restart your computer.

4. Check the camera is switched on

  • Look for a sliding privacy shutter over the lens.
  • Some laptops have a camera key on the keyboard (often an F key with a camera icon).
  • On Windows, Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Cameras shows each camera and lets you re-enable one that’s been turned off.
Background effects making it laggy? Blur and virtual backgrounds use a lot of processing. Turn them off in Teams’ video effects if your camera stutters or freezes.

Why is my camera not working in Teams?

Teams may be using the wrong camera, another app may be holding the webcam, or camera permission may be off in your system settings. If the webcam test on this page shows your picture, the hardware is fine and the fix is in Teams or your privacy settings.

Why does Teams say my camera is not available?

Another application is usually using the camera. Close other video apps and browser tabs, then restart Teams. If that doesn't work, restart your computer to release the camera.

How do I test my camera before a Teams meeting?

Use the webcam test on this page, then in Teams open Settings and Devices to preview your camera. Teams also shows a preview on the pre-join screen before you enter a meeting.

Does this webcam test record my video?

No. The camera preview stays in your browser and is never recorded, saved, or uploaded.
